November 17th will be the opening preview of our new sound installation, Kinokologue 1! We've decided it would be fun to combine the launch of our exhibition at MadLab alongside the 1 year anniversary of our listening evenings, Kinokophonography!
The preview begins at 19:00 with the listening evening afterwards! Please join us for an evening of listening and sharing ideas and stories through sounds from around the world!
The exhibition and listening event is kindly hosted by MadLab
36-40 Edge Street Manchester M4 1HN
Please reserve a ticket on eventbrite as space is limited on the evening.
Kinokologue will be installed at Madlab November 18th & 19th from 11:00-17:00
Over time we’ve gathered a collection of sounds from around the world; little universes captured digitally onto plastic cards. In an exploration of this immense, continuously changing and growing archive of sound spores, we are creating an organised catalogue of all of our sounds. We aim to bring parts of this collection together in an installation that explores sounds as objects of value, or unique records of time and place that are worth recording, preserving and displaying. As sound recordists, we wish to address the associations between the initial motivation in collecting a sound and its value as an individual memory, free from fulfilling a specific role within a given project. We want to share our collections and present our research findings by creating an interactive and engaging work for everyone to enjoy.
Thanks to a kind award from Cornerhouse Micro Commissions the Kinokophone mycelium of sound spores takes life in the form of Kinokologue 1: Sonic Specimen Boxes. We are also happy to announce that we are collaborating with Akiko Yanagimoto who is responding to our collection of sounds through her embroidery work.
